About Mach 5 Racing

At Mach 5 Racing, we strive to help athletes meet their individual goals at races, which are often to get faster and have fun (those really go together)! We offer a variety of services ranging from detailed individual coaching services for serious athletes to training plans, youth training, group programs, clinics and more!

Mach 5 Racing offers coaching that encompasses the Five Fundamentals to Success to reach your athletic goals. These include focusing on the areas of Training, Recovery, Life Balance, Nutrition, and the Mental Game.

Five Fundamentals to Success

1) Training: Endurance training strengthens the cardiovascular, muscular and metabolic systems, among other systems! Juggling the variables of volume, frequency, duration and intensity on a yearly, monthly, and even daily basis is imperative to advancing fitness and staying injury free and happy! Happy athletes are what we want at Mach 5.  We believe in laying a solid aerobic and strength foundation as well as designing individual training to meet your unique physiology, talent, race plans, time to train and goals!

2) Restorative Practices: Every athlete has heard it a hundred times that the body actually builds during periods of rest, but a lot of us either don’t believe that or just don’t listen J! It is truth. The body replenishes hormones and goes through other necessary restorative processes during sleep. Quantity and quality of sleep are important. Also, the more you train, the more you need to sleep, period. Other great methods of recovery include massage, body work, ice baths, compression, and more!

3) Nutrition: There are two main aspects of nutrition including WHAT you eat and HOW you eat. WHAT you eat includes the quality (or lack thereof) of food. HOW you eat includes frequency between meals and overall timing throughout the day. Both are very important to overall health, fitness and performance. On a daily basis, eating foods fresh from the farm-gate are important to get essential vitamins and minerals that are vital to health. Keeping blood sugar stable throughout the day (including during training!) keeps the body less stressed... and a nutritionally unstressed body is able to train better and advance fitness better! Race week and race day hydration and nutrition is also critical to race day outcomes. The longer the race, the more important hydration and race nutrition becomes and is often what does us in on race day!  The body needs fluids, electrolytes, and carbohydrates to keep on keeping on.

4) Life Balance: Keeping life in balance is important for sport… well, for pretty much everything! Keeping sport in perspective relative to the rest of your life is good not only for the rest of your life but also to your life as an athlete! Athletes who keep their life, work, family and relationships balanced have also enjoyed sport more and raced better!  Easier said then done, yes…

5) Mental Game: Lack of Confidence, nervousness, doubt, fear, jealously… these can all rattle us mentally as we train and race. The good news is that there are ways to actually “train” the mental side of our noggins too and become better athletes mentally. This foundation should often move to #1!

BONUS: Camaraderie: No one lives on an island. Most athletes like people. We enjoy training with others, making friends, sharing experiences. We also race harder when we race each other. We race harder when our coach cares about our results and our life!
